Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive
The National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will be held Saturday May 12, 2012 where letter carriers across the country, in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service, will be collecting food for families in need. All you have to do to participate is Collect a bag of non-perishable food items and place by your mailbox for your letter carrier to deliver to a local food bank or pantry. Please donate items like canned meat, fish, soup, juice, vegetables, pasta, cereal and rice. Please do not include items that have expired or are in glass containers.

National Train Day
Amtrak’s fifth annual celebration of passenger rail service. Two Amtrak Texas Eagle passenger trains stop nightly in Poplar Bluff. Nearly 5,500 passengers got on/off at Poplar Bluff during past Amtrak fiscal year. Free Amtrak information. The Moark Regional Railroad Museum will give away a model train set valued at $80. Register by donating $2 for 1 ticket for $5 for 3 tickets. Limit of $5 per person. View museum exhibits, 30-foot model train layout and Southeast Explorer Mobile Museum. Walk through Missouri Pacific caboose. Purchase model railroad items in Train Shop. Regular museum hours are 1-4 p.m. Saturdays(except major holiday weekends). Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Members of Poplar Bluff Historic Depot Corporation Board also will have open house at Amtrak station in the historic 1910 depot on Second Street.

UCAN 3 Mile Walk
On May 19, 2012, cancer survivors, along with their family and friends will come together to walk through the streets of Poplar Bluff. The inaugural walk will be to show support for The United Cancer’s Assistance Network, and to honor the forever inspiring Sarah White. There are no sponsorship levels. There is no fee to walk. UCAN is encouraging businesses and individuals to form teams to participate. Businesses and individuals can also make donations in honor of employees, friends or family members who are bravely battling cancer, or in memory of employees or loved ones who have lost their fight. Anyone who wants to participate is welcome. Raise as much money as UCAN…….. and then join over 1,000 others from our community as we walk together, and stand up against this devastating disease. It is guaranteed to be one of the most rewarding days of your life! Check in will begin at 8:30 a.m. on May 19, 2011. Check in will be located in the parking lot to the west of the UCAN office located on 1419 Maud St. Join others for a doughnut and a cup a coffee, meet survivors and hear their amazing stories. The 3 mile walk will begin at 10:00 am. Local businesses, churches and organizations will be set up along the clearly marked route with water stations, bathroom breaks and resting spots. The walk will end back at the west parking lot of the UCAN office. Once all walkers have completed the walk we will celebrate our accomplishment and remember those we have lost with a balloon release! Pre-registration is strongly encouraged so that your team can receive their “walk” shirts and other promotional items prior to the event. CIPC 5K in May
Coon Island Pentecostal Church is hosting a 5k fun run/walk and a 1/2 mile kids dash at Bacon Park in Poplar Bluff to benefit the Neelyville Bread Shed which is a local ministry that feeds both spiritually and naturally those in need on the 4th Saturday of each month. The Neelyville Bread Shed along with other communities is an extension of the Poplar Bluff Bread Shed and as a result there is a food distribution that occurs in or around Poplar Bluff every Saturday. Please Come and help support this worthy cause and help feed the hungry. Contact Ed Plummer (Pastor) $30 per person for 5k run and $15 per person for the 1/2 mile dash.
